SEO & AI Search Roadmap

A phased plan to improve findability on Google, Google Images, and AI search tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.

Phase 1

Foundation (Done ✓)

Immediate

Page title & meta description

Keyword-rich title targeting 'wildlife photography Kenya', 'safari photography', 'fine art prints'.

Open Graph tags

Proper og:image, og:title, og:description for rich previews when shared on social media or messaging apps.

Twitter Card tags

Large image card format for maximum visibility when links are shared on X/Twitter.

Canonical URL

Prevents duplicate content penalties by telling search engines the authoritative URL.

Schema.org structured data

Person, WebSite, and LocalBusiness schemas — helps AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) understand who you are and what you offer.

Robots meta tag

Explicitly tells crawlers to index and follow all pages.

Favicon updated

Uses your logo instead of the default Base44 icon.

Phase 2

Content & On-Page SEO

1–4 weeks

Add per-page <title> and meta descriptions

Each page (Photography, About, Travel, Contact) needs its own unique title/description. Currently they all share the same one from index.html. Use react-helmet or a simple document.title update per page.

Alt text on every image

All images should have descriptive alt text: e.g. 'Lion resting in Masai Mara, Kenya — wildlife photo by Osman Siddiqi'. This feeds both Google Images and AI vision crawlers.

Write a blog or journal section

Even 4–6 short posts (500+ words each) about specific shoots — 'Photographing Elephants in Amboseli', 'Northern Pakistan Karakoram Road Trip' — would dramatically increase keyword surface area.

Add collection-level pages

Each photography collection (Wild Cats, Elephants, etc.) currently links externally to Squarespace. Hosting them here with captions and stories keeps users on-site and builds SEO authority.

Compress and self-host key images

Squarespace CDN images load well but you have no control. Self-hosting priority images with next-gen formats (WebP) and proper file names (osman-siddiqi-lion-kenya.webp) adds SEO signals.

Phase 3

Authority & Backlinks

1–3 months

Google Search Console

Submit your sitemap (generate one at osmansiddiqi.com/sitemap.xml) to Google Search Console. Monitor which queries bring traffic and which pages get impressions.

Instagram bio link

Update @osmsiddiqi_photo bio to link directly to osmansiddiqi.com. Instagram is a major referral source for photographers.

Get featured in photography directories

Submit to 500px, ViewBug, or wildlife photography showcases. Each backlink from a credible domain raises your domain authority.

Partner with Kenya travel blogs

Guest posts or mentions on 'best Kenya safari photographers' articles are gold. Reach out to Lonely Planet contributors, travel Instagram accounts, and Kenya Tourism Board.

Local SEO for Nairobi

Create a free Google Business Profile as a 'Photographer' in Nairobi. This gets you into local search and Google Maps results for 'wildlife photographer Nairobi'.

Phase 4

AI Search Optimisation (AISO)

Ongoing

Answer questions directly in your copy

AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity pull from pages that directly answer questions. Add an FAQ section: 'How much do Kenya safari photography trips cost?', 'Where can I buy wildlife fine art prints?'.

Expand structured data

Add ImageObject schema to key photographs with creator, dateCreated, locationCreated, and description fields. This feeds Google Image search and AI crawlers.

Add an Article/BlogPosting schema

If you write a journal, wrap each post in Article schema so AI aggregators can cite you as a source.

Ensure fast load times

AI crawlers and Google both penalise slow pages. Target <2s load. Use lazy loading on images (already partially in place) and minimise render-blocking scripts.

Get mentioned by name in credible sources

When authoritative sites (BBC Africa, National Geographic, safari operators) mention 'Osman Siddiqi photographer', AI models learn to associate your name with your niche. Pursue press and collaborations actively.

Key Principle

Both Google and AI tools reward the same things: specificity, authority, and consistency. The more clearly your site answers "who is Osman Siddiqi, what does he photograph, and how can I work with him?" — the more findable you become, both in traditional search and AI-generated answers.
